Description

This is a pure photo except for resizing. It shows the view from the rear cockpit of an old Twin Astir with remarkable bank angle when flying in a thermal upwind. The Pilot was a student of mine at that time, so dont't mind the hole in his T-shirt. But he did a very fine job investigating the structure of gusts and thermals. In my opinion, the most funny thing about these photos is that you immediately know that not the cockpit is horizontal but everything including the camera is inclined with respect to the landscape, even though it´s a bit misty and the horizon not clearly visible. There are a couple of such images as I several times tried to capture cases with high bank angles. Sometimes you can feel the camera becoming heavy due to the load factor. Well, for posting I honestly choose the one with the highest climb rate, he always flew a bit to fast to get the upwind right.
