Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Wow what a huge job. I bet it isn't cheap either to have it removed.

You never know, maybe it will grow again.

Very cool collage Andrea. the process is definitely more intense within the confines of private property and housing compared to out in the woods

Accent up the south face! What a job, such a lot of equipment needed. I remember you saying you couldn't cut it without permission. You need a second mortgage too I bet! A wonderful collection of shots. Quite exciting from a photography point of view, being there to record it happening. I thought Western red was rot proof too, wrong again!

It can make one's heart sick to have to take down such a once great tree on a garden estate. Their ghost haunts the memory when their space is layed barren...

its always so sad to have to take down a tree, whether it's not growing right, or has a disease, etc.. but yes, what a huge job. Patrick would have loved to take on that one. ;)

So interesting to see such a familiar plant so far from home! Leaving a tall stump is good practice ... you'll enjoy watching it change over the years. We had a tall alder stump that the woodpeckers just loved. It eventually fell over, but what fun it was to keep an eye on it!

Always sad to see a tree go, especially a senior citizen like this. Leaving the stump is a nice kindness for the foxes. Wonderful set of images documenting the process.

Beautiful pic.

Yes a little mournful to have such an old tree felled, but badly necessary too. Thank you for sharing these beautiful shots with us. Glad you left a stunp back for a fox retrete :)

A collage of epic and historic proportions, Andrea. At that distance, it looks like one of our mile high palm trees in and around my area.
danapommet
Very happy for you to receive permission to get it down before it fell down and did some damage. Nice thought to leave the 8 foot wildlife resource.

We have our guest bedroom, on all walls lined with Western Red Cedar, and it looks absolutely stunning - let's hope, that they can recycle some of that old lady ;)) I would hate to see something beautiful, as WRC wood go to waste! fine evidence of something from the past now ... BB
jendellas
