Description
As soon as the door whooshed closed, Alba reached up and grabbed the top of her hair and pulled it off, revealing a pair of pointy ears and flame red hair underneath the wig. She walked on ahead, without answering Wulf's little joke or even acknowledging it was a joke. "You two go see Shea. He'll get you settled for take-off." She turned toward a large metal doorway, into a room full of strange pipes and contraptions and reached for something on the wall near the door. As she turned, Wulf got a look at her face again. It was completely different from outside the ship! Well, at least her eyes and skin or makeup - whatever it was. He stood there just staring at her. Alba stared back with those disturbing red eyes set in sclera black as night, as if daring him to do something about her transformation.
"What the...? Uhhhhh?!" He was startled as Xara nudged him forward and tore his gaze away. "Oh...yeah." He forced his feet to move forward. "Were those...elf ears?"
They walked out of ear-shot and Xara said, "Something like that. Don't mind Alba. She does things like that. She's not exactly human. That is to say, she's humanoid but not like us."
"Why the disg...? What do you mean, 'not exactly human?" Wulf sighed pressing forward toward the bridge. "I don't even know where to begin."
"Just keep movin' if you want to get out of here before they catch on we've left, sweetheart. All will be explained in time."
"If you say so, Xar."
"Don't worry, Shea's like us. Alba's his First Mate and his lady. She's not going to eat you, if that's what you're afraid of," Xara laughed. They came to three low stairs that led up onto the bridge. There was a man hunched over the main console flipping switches and poking at the heads-up display before him with a familiarity born of doing this many times.
"Cop a seat, Xara...Wulf," he said without turning around, "and strap yourselves in. We're takin' off. Good thing you didn't wait any longer, or there'd be PA's* here wondering what the delay was!" (*Port Authorities.)
As Wulf buckled himself in, he heard a woman's voice confirm the course was set and start the countdown. It wasn't Alba's voice, but one of a higher-pitch. To his left in the shadows, another man was engaged in something over another console. Shea turned then and strode to his captain's chair wihout another word, and buckled himself in. "Don't we need pressure suits or something?" Wulf asked Xara in a loud whisper as the engines roared to life.
"Nope. This ship is different than most. You'll see," she answered cryptically.
"Take off is a little bumpy, but once we're out she's smooth as Turgonian silk," Shea called back to them. "Hang on folks!"

So far, so good. And just what DID Xara mean, Alba wasn't 'exactly human'? Stay tuned to find out.

Another fantastic installment. Love the characters - the interactive posing is top notch, very difficult to do but essential when telling a story like this. I love the grungy spaceship interior, reminds me of "Firefly" in many ways. Great story, and you've done a really good job of "hooking" us for the next chapter LOL!
