Brad Pitt and I share the exact same birthday (month, day, year) outside of that, our stories diverge considerably. Mr. Pitt went on to become an internationally famous superstar, while I have led the much more interesting life of the starving artist. I come from a long line of storytellers (whose gift for gab stretches back through the mists of time to our native Ireland) and professional malcontents who were seemingly born to create something in the arts, be it music, writing, sculpture, painting, or photography. I started writing at age 12 with a screenplay with my cousin Ryan about a planet where everyone looked like Elton John entitled "Don't I Know You?" More screenplays followed, several of which received epic Super-8 production with budgets that sometimes ran up to $10. A few even had sound!  More writing followed: songs, poems, short stories, numerous unfinished novels, etc.. Somewhere in there was an attempt at being a rock star...
Still living at home, at age 22, my father dropped an elderly Nikromatt 35-mm film camera into my lap, in the hopes that I would "make a go of it" as a photojournalist. That didn't happen, but I did develop an abiding love of photography that along with writing and archival work have been among the chief passions of my life. When it comes to my photography, I try to be as creative as possible while at the same time striving for a documentary/archival quality. The only set rules I adhere to, when it comes to making pictures are: 1.) Try not to make the picture blurry, and 2.) Don't drop the camera.

Stunning. Must have modeled it after his last eye appointment:) I have grown to love public art...a bit of outrageous is the only way to get people talking! Good to "see" you here...look forward to more.

That's actually pretty cool! I would make a terrible Midwesterner. I'm far too interested in new things to condemn them out of hand. Or eye. Or whatever. :P Well seen! (Sorry about that ... it's hard not to.)

I didn't realize this was a representation of the artist's eye: so that means this is also a self portrait of sorts...OK...a fragment of a self portrait. I'd love to see him do others: a thumb, an ear, his nostrils. Seriously, fragments like that are endlessly amusing. Just think...one day, you're on State Street, minding your own business and suddenly, there's a giant, bronze leg, just standing there, as it it just so happened to grow in that particular spot! How fun would that be. I have to admit that I wish the eye was a longer-term installation, although I was always afraid of it rolling into the street and causing a rather surreal mess. I miss the Eye! I never disliked it, but I always thought it was too tucked away, but now that it's gone, I see how nice a spot that was for it. Who knows, maybe we'll see it somewhere else. I like this shot, but now I wonder what it would be like to see this sculpture, next to a billboard for eye drops. And yeah, I'll go for the pun too: well seen.

That is an eye opener! - snicker. Giant eyeballs are strange to say the least. Rod Serling must have had a fascination with them as so often the lidless eye is used to represent a potent force on 'The Twilight Zone'. And the Atraxi manifested themselves as a giant blue eyeball in 'The Eleventh Hour'. And lets not forget the eye of Sauron from 'The Lord of the Rings'. This one is equally potent but me thinks less menacing. More content to observe than to impose. Still it does seem to have suffered some sleepless nights from what it has seen lately. A very cool capture.

It is quite nice! I wonder what would have ensued if it had been called 'Weathered Breast' or something, LOL. How long until some wag mounts a monacle on that, or a contact lens?
