Description
I met Vaughn Reed in or around '06. He had a CD with some excellent portrait shots of the legendary George Jones. Mr. Reed is Mr. Jones Bass Player and looks after an arm of his merchandising. In this case I was enlisted to design the Tour/Concert t-shirts and such. The photographer had done the heavy lifting, all I had to do is make it work on a black substrate. It ain't as easy as I make it look. I get a little green around the gills when I hear someone wants a color portrait on Black, Purple, Red, etc. Each of those bases need their own treatment. Anyway the shirt was a smashing success. Mr. Jones has used the merged GJ for years but Vaughn said George, "Wanted to do something with it." He had used it solid, outlined, etc. but "wanted something different." Happy to oblige. When I think of something legendary I think of 2 materials; Oak and Iron. Sent the proof and they liked it but wanted the metal shiny. This image printed in the pocket area, the rest of the front was his portrait. The back was George Jones with NO SHOW diagonally imperfect as if rubber stamped, I drew a possum hanging by his tail (as they do. usually a Persimmon tree) from the 'J' of Jones, sporting a cowboy hat and flat top guitar. The rest of the back were current tour dates. From '06 to present all I had to do was update the tour dates. Typing.
It was an honor and a privilege to have this opportunity. His Grand Finale was to be in Nashville with special guests a plenty.
