Hi, I'm Andrea, and I'm interested in creatures and plants both wild and tamed, and people of all sorts. I only use a compact digital camera ,as I love being able to get it into a back pocket, and not have to cart heavy kit about. I carry a Panasonic Lumix TZ series, binoculars and a hand lens almost everywhere. Most of my outings are with the dogs so I only use point and shoot.
I am getting the hang of Photoshop, thanks to some very kind folk on RR!Â
I have a wildlife garden in Bournemouth, Dorset, in the UK, and spend a lot of time there . I retired from teaching art to teenagers a while ago.
I'm now getting some good results with my digi compacts; it took me a while to make the switch from my old film camera, an 1960 ish Pentax Spotmatic, but the mistakes are much cheaper! Â
I have 4 lodgers, 3 dogs and a parrot who, as at 2017, I have had 40 years.
I has so far had 19 dogs, mostly rescues.

Mmmm...breakfast ! Nice algae shot. Guess I'll have to take a closer look in my greenhouse too. What do you grow in your greenhouse? I grow orchids and tropicals.

Algal scum? How did you get these politicians to pose for you? A stunning image. Could very well be a fractal. It has a wonderful sci-fi quality to it.

Fantastic capture,

I was thinking pond scum algae but this beautiful specimen was in a bucket. All the better to move it around for the best lighting and limited chances of falling in! :o)

OMG! You've got euglenas in your greenhouse!? Those things are not as easy to come across as one might expect! Either that or they just aren't that keen on the Midwestern United States...oh, actually, they are, but they're not that keen on Chicago. I'd recognize this shade of green anywhere. Call me weird, but I like the smell of it too. And to top it off, you provided a link! I loved looking at it as it brought back my childhood; I laughed at the idea (and fact) or torpid flagellates, but what beautiful eyespots they have! Such crisp, viridian (which is where they get their name, I suppose.) A marvel on multiple levels. I think I need to invest in a microscope with camera attachments. There's a whole world (in a teacup) out there!
