Description

This image was made special for John Martini of "JokerMartini.com - Tools, VFX & Tutorials", as a promo example of what can be accomplished in a very short time using the awesome Tubular modeling plugin for 3dsmax. The "Nail Lamp," featured in this render, was modeled entirely using the Tubular plugin in about two minutes; including the lamp shade. The lamp itself is all one continuous Tubular object, made up of about 13 sections, with no standard sub-object edge selections, attaching, edge extruding, or vert welding operations required. The shade part is a separate Tubular primitive, consisting of only one section. The topology is all quads. Render was done in Octane v1.11. On a personal note, I give John Martini a lot of props for this extremely useful new plugin. Tubular allows you to quickly and easily model just about any kind of extruded linear shape, with transitions from square to circular geometry, corkscrews, twists, and other topological modifications, in a mere matter of seconds. You control the topology flow through the parameter spinners, which can make short work of things like bolts, screws, nuts, swords, skirts, donuts, pencils, lamps, vases and many other objects. If you use 3dsmax, I highly recommend checking this one out; there's no need for time-consuming face extrusions, spline lofting, or lathing when it comes to creating complex "tubular" shapes. Use a path deform for some really organic shapes, and you may find yourself not needing to mess around with the cumbersome Loft Compound object nearly as often. Thanks for looking!
