Description
Deep inside the Melbourne Royal Botanic Gardens, a tradition is still being upheld. Melbourne visitors and locals in love are still making there way to a 'hidden' part of the bamboo garden where countless people before them have left their names for prosperity. It doesn't actually harm the plant, as a grove of bamboo can live indefinitely - constantly producing new culms every year.

Nice one Andrew but I'm a bit bamboozled!

We feel it is bad practice to carve into trees and therefore prefer the "love locks" on bridge railing. When I was a child I tried to scratch in my favorite tree in the garden a heart. Since there was a lot of trouble with my father. Super capture with memorys.

Cool shot, and better in zoom! It reminds me of photographing to wooden benches around the Grand Canyon. Some have many names carved in, also same story in Waikiki.

Wow! Superb capture!

Excellent photo and post. When walking around old buildings or churches I like to look for old messages carved in the stonework or scratched on the glass panes as it helps to connect to the people who used the building in the past.

This is really amazing and I'd love to see this in person! The color and the odd juxtaposition of natural bamboo and then human carvings...well...that's just WOW! I really like this!

This kind of tradition is excellent, and shouldn't be hidden or destroyed, (like it is here).. Good shot mate. Rob

Graffiti on living bamboo instead of urban art on walls. I like this shot!
