Description

A little birdie mentioned a particular birthday, and so I’m putting up a particular post. I have a love of moss, lichens, fungi of various sorts, and small creatures with a non-mammalian number of legs, and so it’s no surprise that I’d be drawn to such things. In the case of this shot, I was drawn to the odd bristle-like stalks thrusting up from a bed of moss; they made me think of a hedgehog with a very modern, multi-hued dye job. The uniformity of the growth made this a strangely difficult shot to capture, as did the moss itself, having decided to pick an inaccessible spot to grow in, but I managed this shot. I rather like it. As I’ve just become aware of a particular birthday here on Renderosity, I felt it would be a good thing to do a birthday post. Funny. I suspect that moss and birthdays might become a running theme. Or maybe, moss and something else; at any rate, Happy Birthday, Lynn. As always, thank you for viewing, reading, and commenting, and I hope you’re al having a great week. Happy Birthday to Lynn.

How beautiful! Thank you so much Chip. Its a fabulous capture and the first thing I thought of when I saw it was 'its like candles aglow on top of my cake'' (66 of them, lol!) The color is wonderful, I can imagine all the little critters running around in there. The second thing I thought was of another little world yet unexplored and all its citizens dancing in happiness beneath the colored lights. This was a major surprise for me as I am unable to be online much. Many thanks to Mark (anahata.c) for telling me of this.and again many thanks to you for the unique beauty you share.

This is incredible, Chip! As you often do, you've managed to take something tiny and make it bigger than life! Just look at those colors! Superb photo, my friend!

Outstanding and such brilliant colors. My first impression was match sticks but Lynn description is much better, birthday candles. A wonderful gift for Lynn.

That is such a beautiful shot, amazing how it reminds me of fire, yet in so many was is a polar opposite: fire destroys, yet this is life. And the most extraordinary thing about living things is they defy the usual entropy-laws: they gather molecules, and an external energy source (usually the sun) and combine them in a series of carefully controlled reactions to end up with a complex molecule that is at a higher energy-state than the component-molecules were before. The opposite of a combustive reaction. Too cool!

WOW! All I can say is WOW! This is SO cool,( obviously I actually can say more than WOW). Didn't realize this was moss. I'm not sure what I thought it was, but it made me think of being a kid, laying, (or is that lying-I'm never sure), on the shag carpet and scrutinizing the individual "shags" in front of me at eye level. I love the eye level with the ground almost dream-like otherworldly carpet crawlers vibe this gives me. It makes me want to look at other things close up and see what alternate universes are living in there. Or something like that. Cool shot. WOW.
