Description
"Winter Wheat"
This is called winter wheat because it is planted in winter. It sprouts and grows slowly until spring. It will be golden in color and ripe to harvest in mid June.
Considering the lush-ness of this crop, I would guess that it would produce around 40 Bu/Acre or more [If storms don't beat it down]. This field is grown in Kansas, USA, and is a few blocks from my home.
Note: Did you notice the three birds on the ground in front of the wheatfield?.

Winter wheat will also make a softer flour that has less protein. A beautiful photo and a welcome sight to bakers everywhere.
