I do not see how your image relates to reality in any manner – however it is apparent from the comment above (asserting you are right about “the” government while drawing no distinction regarding “which” government is so impugned) that some take this as a comment on present day matters – so, in this regard I will add my objective point of view. It seems irrational (to me) that anyone would imagine responsibility for their livelihood, state of employment, wellbeing, or any other aspect of their individual existence – all of which rightfully fall within the context of individual responsibility – could possibly rest on the shoulders of anyone other than themselves. There is no “right” to hold a job – employment is maintained only by your effort to maintain your own value as an employee – cease to be of value, and you cease to be employed. Freedom is the right to an action and not a result. You cannot have a “right” to the fruits of labor without the requirement to work. Just as you cannot eat with another man’s mouth, you cannot earn with another man’s labor, in both instances the action required is individual and can never be anything other. By the same token, the labor of another individual takes nothing from you – as the tasks of survival are entirely individual in nature. So, in this way, it makes no difference if the labor is performed by man or machine – for as technologies change, the opportunities for labor change in context but do not diminish in whole. So I do not see how a lack of action (in this case by “government”) translates into an assault – which you characterize as (I quote) “kicking the working man in the goolies as usual.” The irrationality in this assertion is thus: no non action can ever equal an action in terms of physical assault. Your words imply that the action you demand is that some other group or collective of individuals (people other than yourself) take responsibility for your life, your well being, your very existence – which leaves me baffled. I cannot imagine what could lead an individual to surrender their own right to action – indeed, their very freedom. Which leads me to the phrase “working man:” this is an anti-concept (per Ayn Rand). An anti-concept is a catch-phrase utterly devoid of meaning, the intent of this kind of lingual device is to destroy, or obfuscate, meaningful concepts. I will illustrate: Since man has to sustain his life by his own effort, by the physical work of his hands and the labor of his mind, there is no other kind of man other than a ”working man”, what you offer is a distinction without a difference. Nature gives us only the raw materials, but it is man’s mind that has to discover the knowledge of how to use them. It is man’s thinking and labor that transform the materials into food, clothing, shelter, the computer or tablet upon which you view these words —into all the goods that men require for their survival, comfort and pleasure. It is man’s mind which tells him when conditions in the labor market are changing, it is his ability to devise plans and strategies to meet the challenge of this change (such as seeking education to the end of improving or creating new skills so that you can maintain your value as an employee – or so you can launch your own endeavor). It is the capacity to reason and to act on the product of your reason that you can depend on and not some collective or group of other men. When you announce your victim hood because other men have done nothing (call them government or not) what you surrender is your right to action – and indeed, what you have surrendered is the creativity of your very mind.
