Description

The North America Nebula is an emission nebula in the constellation Cygnus. It is around 4 times the size of the moon in the night sky. Shot from my light-polluted back garden with a £350 600mm telescope and a filter to cut most of the light pollution out, plus Canon 5d mk ii attached. Around 2 hours of exposure here in 2.5 minute chunks, the last taken about 3.30 am... yawn.... Don't look too closely at the stars at the top of the image; there's something wrong with the scope and I am currently trying to negotiate its return. I have a guide camera on order which will hopefully allow me to take 10 minute+ exposures. If I am brainy enough (??!!) to get it to work, it will allow me to image much darker objects. If anyone has a spare £6k I have my eye on a very nice astrograph telescope. If not, I might have to part with a kidney :) Thanks for looking and any comments. Have a great weekend, ~Steve~

Very NICE! I have never shot the north American before. The color looks good and the stars are round. 150 seconds is good. I got 90 seconds shooting the sunflower galaxy the other night. That was with guiding! haha Have fun!

I can see why it's called the North America Nebula and this is a fantastic capture of it Steve. All far too clever for me but I admire your knowledge and capabilities.

With results like this it might be worth a kidney! Spectacular work!

Have wanted one since I was 12. Now being 4 times that age I'd give that kidney for the scope ;~) Nicely done!
