Description

I recently had to attend a meeting in Birmingham (the one in the UK) and, to get to the venue, I had to pass this rather splendid building. I was quite surprised to discover that this is Birminghams cathedral. A city as large as this with such a small cathedral. I checked with Wikipedia and found that it is properly named 'The Cathedral Church of Saint Philip', was built as a parish church between 1710 and 1725, consecrated in 1715 and became the cathedral of the newly formed Diocese of Birmingham in 1905. Built in the Baroque style by Thomas Archer, it is a Grade I listed building. St Philip's is the third smallest cathedral in England after Derby and Chelmsford.
