Description
I found this Mantis while photographing the flowers of the Cane Plant in my dad's front yard. It was about two and half inches long. This is the first of three shots.
Shot in macro mode with my Canon Powershot SX130IS.

Cool capture and motif, Dan. A fascinating insect, the Mantis. They are quite scary when they mate... the female bite the head of the male, during the mating :) ..to get rid of a mating preventing hormon in the male brain :) And during the rest of the mating.. she eat his body.. bit by bit...scary but fascinating creature. :) Happy it ain't the same for the human mating session...i would have been dead and headless for several decades :)

Thanks man. I think they look awesome and I appreciate them taking care of the bugs that eat the plants.
