Description
I went camping on Superstition Mountain this past weekend. It was a lot of work hiking in with the gear. The water was hot and I carried lots of it. 6 liters. The MRE's I took for food had expired some time ago and they were not fit to eat. Lucky for us we brought a bag of jerky for each of us. We are going to start stashing canned goods for future use whenever we go to this neighborhood. I woke up after midnight on Sun morning and got a good view of the Milky Way and I also finally got my drink of cold water. Yaaaaay!!!! In the future I am going to do whatever it takes to make sure my tripod accompanies me on my camping trips. I missed shots of the Milky Way because I thought the tripod too heavy and left it at home.

Where were you camping?

Great shot. Yeah you need a tripod for all those long exposures.

Wonderful self portrait, Dan. Yeah the Milky Way is pure art. Nice bedouin/nomad style btw :)

Nice shot.

You could make it work with a bean bag if you have a cable release. I like the shot of you, and it wouldn't take much to make you look like a wealthy Arab...bit larger towel with black and white squares, roll up the bandana a bit tighter...lol
UVDan
Thanks folks. LOL at whaleman! What would make me look like a wealthy Arab? A huuuuuuuuuge bank account.8^) I keep the towel moist and the evaporation keeps me somewhat cool. I love the clean linen smell too.

I seldom carry a tripod also, but shooting the night sky requires one for me. there is not enough stabilization available to account for the shake. when I used my 500mm lens with a 2x and 1.5 extender shooting the moon, the most simple movement on an expensive tripod would cause a ruined shot outstanding portrait
UVDan
Thanks.

Would have ventured into that area in early April you "Die Hard Desert Rat"
UVDan
I used to be a die hard. Ten years ago, I would have spent 4 or 5 days there in the middle of summer instead of just overnight.
