Description

I photographed this plant because of the soft light and bokeh behind it. Sorry I don't have any idea of it's name (as usual!) Do any of the experts here know what it is please? People have been querying why I don't use light with my plant shots to make them POP like my car and street shots! Jeff raised a good point that I could increase light in Photoshop. I totally agree that yes that would make them pop. But just to explain why I shoot them differently. It's kind of an exercise in light for me. I take a light meter with me, and what I do is I try to precisely match the light I see with the light I get in the photo. These flowers are usually shot in dark, dappled, soft lit gullies. So it's that soft peaceful feel I am going for. I NEVER use any external lights whilst shooting these types of photos. So if it looks cold and damp, be assured it was LOL. But I totally agree, they do lack the 'punch' of other things I do! Thanks so much everyone for giving me so many great ideas. Andrew

I have been enjoying your flower pictures for that very reason! This one I can't name, it's probably an Aussie.

i think its Crocosmia, i agree with your policy on light, what you see is what you get as far as i'm concerned. Nice shot

It is your interpretation, the way it is and how you to see it - it is your art, the way you like to present it and your choice entirely ... nothing wrong with that, and it looks perfectly fine, the mood really enhances this image, great effort and stick to your guns! BB BTW it appears to look like a Crocosmia - but the shape of the leaves are wrong; I checked my Botanica (only about 900 pages) and came up with another couple of suggestions, perhaps a Salvia ? or Watsonia ? I can't be too sure - until the flower-buds have fully opened. You can always check Google for images - good luck Andrew, let us know, if you found the answer ;))

I am with Andrea with the way you photograph things. Sometimes I see that the flash has sucked the colors right out of the shot! We are here to show off our work and provide feedback to other peoples work.
