Description

I usually try to avoid mixing my art & photography with politics, but I'm making an exception in this case. Today, I participated in an anti-Monsanto rally in Medford, Oregon (these were happening worldwide today) where I took this photo. I believe in science & evidence & I think there is no conclusive proof that GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) are either harmful or harmless. What I object to are Monsanto's excessive greed & ruthless business practices & the complicity of our legislators & courts in protecting Monsanto's interests over those of the public. Not enough room here to go into all of Monsanto's nasty policies & practices, but I will mention one: The use of gene splicing techniques to create GMOs are creating organisms that would likely never occur in nature. That doesn't necessarily mean that they're bad, but it is a significant change to our food supply. Since our food labeling laws already require that the ingredients in foods be listed so consumers can be aware of what they're buying & make informed decisions, why should GMOs be exempt from labeling? If Monsanto's GMOs are so safe & wonderful (as they claim), why are they fighting tooth & nail against labeling laws? And why are our legislators siding with them instead of farmers & consumers? Could hefty political donations from Monsanto be a factor? This shouldn't be a liberal or conservative issue - it's a case of corporate financial power combining with government enforcement power to put greed & profit over the public interest & we need to fight back against it!

Good for you!! I HATE MONSANTO!! I applaud your activism and your photo of the rally!!! Did you know Congress recently passed the Monsanto Protection act which shields them from future lawsuits? Also many Monsanto big wigs hold jobs in the administration.

I agree and I also feel Monsanto's money is finding its way through the back door. I also disagree with court rulings that allow exclusive ownership to any DNA, even if it has been modified because they did not manufacture the DNA. It would be similar to Ford modifying a Chevrolet frame slightly, then claiming exclusive ownership to the entire frame because they made a modification to something that already existed and was created by someone else. How is corn different?

I am very aware of Monsanto. I avoid GMO wheat as it does cause problems for me and others. I believe there is also scientific studies that show this.

to do not mess with what is nature. Remember Genesis 6 say that fallen angels came and produce The Nephilim with humans. I would not mess with plants at all also. man is now mixing animal DNA with humans now. Look that up on google there is a lot of sites there.

Well said. I agree with your analysis. It is their politics that gives me the most creeps.

Nice to see the local GMO march here on Renderosity. Thanks for educating more people about the hazards of MONSANTO and their global takeover of the food supply. There is actually a lot of evidence regarding the damage Glyphosphate does to our health, the health of the soil, and how the weeds build a resistance to Round up therefore requiring more potent weed killers to do the job. Also if the pollen drifts into an organic farm that farmer looses his organic status and Monsanto sues him for using their patented crops! We must stop this evil company! Stop buying and using RoundUp folks....we have become lazy using these chemicals rather than pulling or hoeing weeds...which does kill the weeds!

I am 100% with you on this issue and all congress is interested is funding their re-election war chest and I don't care if they are Dems or Reps. We are here to fund their programs and not change a think. WOW! That felt good!!!
