Description
The Motta Buffetto Mound or Tasca road's motta (an unpaved country road) is situated at Gardigiano di Scorze, a village in the province of Venice, along Giuseppe Rossini road, the main provincial road. It is almost completely preserved, and it appears to be a 8-metres high mound covered by vegetation. In the Austrian land register of 1841, when Veneto was still under the Austrian Empire, the site is mentioned as 'alla Montagnola', that is 'at the Hillock'. Very close to it there is the 16th-century manor house named Villa Tasca (from the lord's name).The Motta/mound, which appears to be a burial mound at first sight, maybe was used as an ice house by the lords of Villa Tasca. Since it has never been excavated, we don't know yet whether there is a body inside or the mound was ruined by the Tasca lords. What is good however, is that this mound is one of the few surviving burial mounds saved from agricultural ravages, possibly saved by the Tasca lords to make their ice house.
