Description

Another aviation scene...who knew? Here three of Neiwil's excellent fighter models stand prominent contesting the fate of a straggling B-17. The B-17 coming from the marketplace here at Renderosity. The fighters are free at ShareCG. I am also using adh3d's excellent WW2 USAAF pilot pack available here at Renderosity. I believe the pilot is Apollo Max. I used IBL lighting on this and no Bryce volume clouds this time. There are four image planes which have cloud images on them.(You know the Leo guy from the create menu.) I decided to try it this way so I would not have to add them in postwork. I also have modified the blur and trans textures of the P-51 propeller. I think it looks much better than the props on the B-17 which seem to look cartoony by comparison. I will have to create a default prop texture of my own to replace the props on models that I find to be not to my liking. I have enabled shadow blur in the skylab and set the shadow intensity about fifty percent. I am using the sky as the IBL even though you cannot actually see any of the Bryce sky here. It took about five days setting up at reduced resolution before the final render. And the final render took about a day and a half. It would have taken less setup time, but I jumped into IBL too early before I had all the textures and actors finalized. I enthusiastically endorse all the products and freebies used in the creation of this image.

Excellent!! Love the IBL, gives a kind of dream (or should that be nightmare) quality. I'd say you're really getting your moneys worth out of these but as they're free (well, mine are :-) so much the better....You chose my fave P-51 too 'Ferocious Frankie', that's extra cool!! Thanks for the mention mate, always appreciated.

Great render! Always great to see the Mustang go through its paces. Yes, it's definitely worth making your own prop blurs... The B17 is a great model but the prop blurs do need to be "tamed" a lot, but its just matter of replacing the alpha trans map. I suppose its all artificial... In that it takes a camera to catch the blur and these days cameras a so good you can just about read the serial number on the propellor... That's why I have tried out a hybrid propellor trans map /model in my more recent models.

Kool Bryce action scene, hope that Muststang pilot makes a snappy move real soon, otherwise his escort days are over ! I wonder if the sperate cloud and plane images were png's ? then you could fade the edges of the clouds so they blend better with the background, just a suggestion. Well done & ~Cheers~

Great looking P-51's! Have you got any P-38's in that collection? :~)

Thanks. Yes, I have Bazze's P-38. It is pretty good but shows some facet artifacting on the horizontal stabilizer, so I have to be careful with the camera angles.
