please excuse my supidity, but is this splines or sub-patches? and which would you think is the best method for doing a face?

Thats subpatching.You need to try all methods(Box,Subpatch,Splines,Edge-Loop)and see what works for you."A hammer might fit in your hand but might be too small for mine."(Britany Spears 1998 after a few beers.)Serious,try differant methods.Oh by the way this is coming along real well.
