Description

Warning!: If you suffer from epilepsy please do not focus on this piece of op-art because it may induce a seizure if you suffer from photosensitive epilepsy. For many years I have been fascinated in the area of optical illusion and more specifically Motion Illusion, fact that I was struck with epilepsy myself at 17 meant I had to stop this practice, through the years and much to many people's dismay who know me I persisted and eventually I was able to train myself regarding what I can and cannot view and for how long.. not being able to go to a Bidget Riley exhibition has always been of great sadness to me but I know my limitations and what spectrums I can tolerate. I have never had much success in creating op-art because it requires the practice of precision and correct tonal coupling in order to prove seeing is not always believing. This piece is a rendition of my favourite concept and the only piece I recently completed that actually works, it's based on Akiyoshi Kitaoka's Rotating Snakes/Pachinko work. He specialises in the study of visual perception.. visual illusion of geometric shapes, brightness, colouring and so forth. I think with this attempt to recreate I have failed to convey enough illusion of movement. An area of art where maybe failure has been more common to me than success based on my limitations with op-art due to my condition.
