Description
June 6, 1944, 69 years ago today, when Allied troops stormed the beaches of Normandy.
Thought this humble Jeep, captured 10/24/10 at the 9th Annual Wings Wheels Rotors & Expo, held at the beautiful Joint Forces Training Base (JFTB) in beautiful Los Alamitos, California, was a good choice to commemorate that fateful day.
I remember it well.
I believe the machine gun is of a .30mm caliber.
Cheerio, and have a nice day.

Just a bit over two months before I was born! Nice collage and I would like one of those 30 calibre machine guns on my Jeep...get through traffic a little faster I think!

I agree with all the comments of this historical event and agree with Whaleman this would be a great option accessory for my Jeep Cherokee. Nice capture Dad. :)

a touching surprise, because usually D-Day is remembered with a large tapestry of one kind or another. But here, you bowed to it with a single jeep and single machine gun. Maybe it tells us that even a battle as vast as that (in all its various sections) still came down to each soldier battling the unthinkable. And the second shot has a poetry to it; there's a feeling that that gun---single though it is---is looking out for, and protecting, all who are near it. The subtle softness of your shots add to that feeling of protection and closeness. And it's so telling to see people walking behind the jeep...they're naturally milling and looking at an Expo. But their presence reminds us that they're doing that because you and others were at these immense battles, to whom we owe a huge debt of gratitude. A fine and touching tribute, and that softness (very subtle) makes it all the more human.

Good post Harry, well thought and remembered! Unlike the FRENCH! Who have decided, the U.S. ONLY stormed the beaches on the 6th June! Thanks for the post mate.. Rob P.S. I got your links and the photos are great! Nice and some rare ones too! Rob
