Description
You might remember Suzanne. She's not as sexy as she was before, being dumped by her boyfriend and pregnancy haven't been too kind. Now about that boyfriend...Yes, when he learned about her becoming pregnant, he skipped town -- fast. He wasn't about settling down, and a child was definitely not part of his plans for the future. But that was then, when Suzanne was attracted to bad boys. Experience and her new responsibility have changed her interests a bit, for the better too.
Enter Ted. He and Suzanne attended school together. He had a crush on her almost since the moment he became interested in girls. She, on the other hand, barely knew he existed. Suzanne, like most of her friends, was interested in the bad boys; and Ted just wasn't that type. Ted was the polite, kind, helpful type.
Ted had left town to attend college, but moved back several years later to open his own business. He had spent his time in the big city, but longed for home. He also hadn't forgotten about Suzanne and had hoped that she was still single.
Ted hadn't sought out information on Suzanne upon his arrival in town, but as soon as he had gotten settled and his business running, he made a stop by the diner Suzanne's parents owned hoping to see her, or at least hear something about her. Much to his surprise, she was working the evening shift, and it was a bit slow affording Ted the opportunity to chat with her a bit. He was pleased to find that she knew who he was, and of course still unmarried. This was well before it became obvious she was pregnant, but after the nameless fool had left town.
Ted frequented the diner in hopes of finding Suzanne working her shift, and often took those moments to learn as much as he could about her and whether or not she had someone else in her life. Given the experience she had, it was a part of her life she wouldn't offer up much information on. It soon became obvious though she was pregnant, and to dispel Ted suspicions, she had sat down at his table one evening for her break and told him a little bit about her recent experiences.
Ted didn't become turned off by the situation, she still had that crush on her; but now felt concern for her too. He just couldn't bring himself to tell her about his crush or his continued interest in her.
Weeks and months had passed, and Ted still stopped by the diner to chat with Suzanne and see how she was managing. He was slowly growing more confident in telling her of his feelings, but could only usually tell her how beautiful she was looking. Suzanne appreciated the compliments, but expected this from Ted, it was the one thing she remembered about him from their school days. She couldn't imagine that anyone at this point could be serious.
This evening was particularly slow though, and while Ted sat and enjoyed his cup of coffee and the occasional moments to chat, he knew that soon Suzanne would have the baby and he wouldn't likely see her for a while. As you know, desperate times call for desperate measures, and Ted rose to the occasion and told Suzanne, "You know, I'm not just being kind when I say you look even more beautiful now than I remember from high school?"
Suzanne was taken by surprise, and asked to elaborate on this. All he could tell her was the truth, that he wanted to get to know her since school, and was glad she was still single, and even though she was having another man's baby, he still would love to take her out to dinner sometime; because he still finds her to be the most beautiful woman he's ever seen; and after the weeks that he has visited the diner to see her, he's found someone who is just as interesting and enjoyable to be around as she is attractive.
Suzanne didn't know what to say, but still managed to say that she would love to go to diner, and that she found something in him that she never knew she wanted before. Just then another couple walked in the diner and Suzanne said, "I'd better seat them, but let me know about dinner, I'm off the next two days and my number is on the check."
