Description

As an amateur historian, I've always wondered about the "what-if's ?"... During WW1, Pusher-prop type aircraft were fairly common, but they fell out of favour in preference for more conventional aircraft designs. During WW2, many nations experimented once again with Pusher type aircraft. There were several designs such as the DO-335 Pfiel, and the J7W Shinden , which were actually accepted for production... however, the war ended before production could be started. Had the war lasted another year or two, many new (and unconventional) aircraft would likely have entered service in the US, Japan, and Germany (and in many other nations as well). To this end I've begun creating a few of my own concepts based on some of the design features of these forgotten proto-types... The first is the P-58A Stallion. Designed to be a long-range Fighter/Bomber-escort, the P-58 features counter-rotating Pusher props, powered by twin Prat-Whitney R2800 Wasp radial engines (same type as that used in fighters like the F4U Corsair), and is armed with internal 20mm cannon under the nose, plus an assortment of external stores... I based my concept on features borrowed from the P-51 Mustang, and the F4U Corsair to get the appearance and style that I wanted for this model... and hope that it looks like a credible possibility that may have come had the real-world proto-types actually been developed and produced... A very credible design, and an excellently executed model. I like this and the good thing with 'what if' alternate timelines, it is possible to imagine this being the origins of the X-Wing of Star Wars fame.....nobody can say "it couldn't happen"....just "it hasn't happened yet"..... 10/10

And what IF Microsoft had written all the assembly instructions for manufacturing P-51 and F4U in WW2...???? Perhaps a very similar outcome? ;-) Its awesome... needs its own TV series I think!
