Description
May 1967...
Over the skies of Vietnam an F4 Phantom throttles up his twin J79's and takes off after a lone MIG 17
The MIG goes full throttle afterburner to get away … and makes for the deck.
The Phantom knows he cannot lock on to the target. He knows the jungle gives off heat return. The sidewinder needs blue skies to lock on to the target.
As they head for the ridge, The NV Pilot know's he has to do one of three things
Bail out ...
Hit the Ridge ...
Pull out and up over the ridge … exposing his aircraft to the blue skies for the Sidewinder to lock on target …

Nice work to go with the story! He'll be twisting and turning his way out of that situation.

The crew of Phamtom, were asking screaming for a cannon. But the designers and "desk pilots", believed that the cannon was obsolete and did not put. Until version "F4-E". A skilled pilot, on board a plane agile as the MIG-17, could have escaped from a situcion like this. Thank you very much for the mention.

In this case Pedro this pilot did not ... as soon as he pulled up over the ridge, the Phantom's pilot saw blue sky and lit the sidewinder ... 1 MIG17 down ...
