Description
I took this photo of a slightly tattered checkerspot butterfly on my property a few days ago. It was pretty skittish & I couldn't get very close, so took this with a full telephoto (24x). Much better zoomed...

There is much to like here in terms of composition. The wonderful contrast of red and green, the sharp focus and the blurred depth of field, the subtle lead in of the twigs and the fine capture of the insect itself.
