Description
They had barely been a married couple for more the a day and a half when it became apparent to Suzanne that time was nearly up, and the baby would soon to be on its way. With the rising sun came the contractions, and as she went to reach over for Ted, he was walking back in the room with breakfast for her. She remained very calm, as she knew it was likely to be a little while before she needed to be rushed off to the hospital, so she nibbled on a bit of her breakfast and quietly mentioned to Ted that he might like to notify his office he wasn't likely coming in today. Despite her remaining calm, Ted looked at her with the panicked look and asked if they shouldn't be hurrying on their way; he knew what she was implying. She quietly assured him that once she finished, she would call the doctor and ask if she should be leaving. Ted already had a phone in his hand dialing before she finished the sentence. The doctor assured him that there was probably no reason to hurry, but once they gathered themselves, it would be best to start heading there.
Ted made the expected calls to both his and her parents, his being just as excited as thought it was a biological grandchild. They all met at the hospital to await the delivery.
Now Suzanne hadn't told anyone if she was expecting a boy or a girl, she didn't want to know herself; she was just sort of like that. She claimed to not having picked names either, saying she'd know when she saw them what their name should be. So as they wheeled her away to a room to wait until she need to be taken to the delivery room, Ted anxiously went along behind while the parents took the time they were together to better get to know each other, and take their best guess as to which it would be, and what name they would pick.
Things progressed quickly though and before too long they were whisking Suzanne to the delivery room, as Ted held her hand. After what seemed like an endless day, and as the sun was now nearly set, the cries of a new baby could be heard coming Suzanne's room, accompanied by Ted's voice proclaiming, "It's a girl, a beautiful little girl." Moment's passed and then they presented Suzanne with her daughter, asking if she had a name for her. She looked at her daughter, looked at Ted, then said to Ted, "What does she look like to you?" Ted still too busy counting fingers and toes simply said, "beautiful, just like her mother!" "No, silly, what name?" prodded Suzanne. Ted looked at her for a moment and said, "Sarah, I like Sarah, it means princess, and she'll always be our princess." Suzanne looked at her baby, then looked at the nurse and said, "Sarah it is. S - A - R - A - H." She looked at Ted and asked, "Excellent choice, and that is the spelling you were thinking?" Ted admiringly looked at her and winked saying, "Like you read my mind." The nurse then asked for verification the father's name. Suzanne, without a shred of hesitation, and before Ted could even react, blurted out Ted's name, exclaiming, "That's who is the father!" Suzanne then asked Ted, "Wouldn't you like to hold you daughter?" as she lifted up Sarah towards Ted saying, "Sarah, this is your daddy, you're going to love him forever."
Tomorrow is Fathers Day - Happy Fathers Day to all of you who are Dad's! Appreciate those qualities that make your father special to you and take a moment to reflect on those good things you might have learned from you father that you have taken with you throughout your life; because when they're gone, it's one of the few things you'll have left.
