Description

Looking over Chilcombe toward the sea. I have very rarely had the chance to stop and take a photo here, but last Sunday..hooray! I find it hard to put into words what this landscape is to me, although I live in town. Bournemouth is a very green place and this sort of scene is comfortingly close. Google Earthers: this was taken on the A35 2/3 of the way Westbound from Dorchester to Bridport looking South. One year, when I was still doing the Craft Markets with my pottery, I lost 2 cylinders on my ancient Volvo climbimg Askers Down, but still got into Bridport, eventually loosing a third. There aren't many cars that would still get you there on one cylinder.. It was my Stromberg carb: the lovely chap who repaired the car bought me a spare diaphram to keep and showed me how to replace it. My present old Volvo works on a totally different system..too much electronics if you ask me!

Like a natural patchwork quilt, words fail me too, to say how beautiful this landscape is - worlds away from the big City-smoke and smog and thank heavens for that! This is so 'teddibly English', the way I always imagined it ... BB

Great day in the mornin', that is so much like the old Irish sod in this splendid pastoral quilt foto, Andrea, with various shades of green to emphasize the variety of the landscape. And you replaced cylinders in your old vehicle? Add auto mechanic to your list of talents.

Nothing in the world like it. The soft pastels are just so beautiful. No other landscapes can make me long for a place I've never been.

I loved driving in England. Around each corner a beautiful scene or bit of history would jump right out at me, like glimpses of patchwork fields caught between tree lined roads. Early one spring, I was having some tension at work. Due to car issues, I was having to go pick up my husband, Bill, at lunch each day. It was a 20 minute drive each way. As I drove the back roads to our house, I felt the tension melt away in the beauty of the scenery. The bushes and trees were budding out and had a lace-like appearance. It was wonderful and I was able to face my boss again with equanimity. I really needed my daily dose of English countryside that spring. Beautiful place and capture! I took a virtual drive down A35 and found a place that looked similar, though the day was rather more gray. I took a detour and explored the village of Litton Cheney which is beautiful and has a footpath I'd love to explore. I know it's wrong to be envious, but I really envy you your homeland. Thanks for sharing it with us and bringing up all kinds of pleasant memories for me.
