Description
Captured 6/19/13, early AM, outside of a local barber shop.
Full size is mind boggling.
I don't know what this is supposed to protect, it was attached to a big metal box on an outside wall, but the hasp wasn't installed correctly, and could be easily unscrewed, defeating its purpose.
Avtio, and have a nice day

It IS mind-boggling; one wonders why they sprayed Christmas tree flocking on the lock; why they left the screws so easily accessible; what it's trying to keep secured in the first place! What an enigmatic find, and excellent capture, Harry!!!!

I promised myself I'd do some very recent work, but I'm still back on page 2 and 3, because of all I didn't comment on as it went up. I promise to get there; but if not this time, then next... "Big, bold and useless!" is a great single-line comment (Andrea): I guess this is useless, as it's not well put together. And Denise's comment about the "Christmas tree flocking" is also great: It does look like decoration, and one wonders why someone sprayed it that way. But as a photo, and example of your eye at work, it's a real find, where its poor construction and mysterious spray make up an almost minimalist portrait. Now, it's not really minimalist, because a lot is happening here; but it's basically a big brown surface, with a lock stuck on it, with spray paint and rust. 3 or 4 'events', no more, and very clearly presented, it's bold. And re the rust part, your closeup (and technical work) allows us to see not only the white paint, but the pink 'rims' around the paint, as well as the rust, the white speckling, and the lock's right side---our right---ie, how it turns golden in the sun. The sun's rays spotlights the decay and its textures beautifully. I had to look up "hasp," btw: I"m an ignoramus in a lot of areas, ya know that? But this is a wonderful capture of a big brown wall, a big clumsy lock assemblage, and tons of activity around it, showing how much goes on in a simple surface. Wonderful---it's not the giddy street-fair type of lock shot you often show, but a ton's going on here regardless. Your padlock series is a feast. (I had to look up "flocking" too, btw: Where the hell have I been??? Mars???)
