Description
As life evolved on the various colonies, the population became very grateful to their government when it managed to solve economic problems and criminality in a single swoop, improving their lives like never before. Of course, few took the time to wonder how the government had done it.
But over on one of the farthest colonies, a remote planet out of the way of trade routes, Julie is one of a few guards here who get to witness what powers this brave new world. Thanks to an unprecedented increase in home monitoring and surveillance, the government started rounding up any subversive element, anyone who would be susceptible to commit a crime based on their past activities, and they are all sent to a forced work district like this one.
Here, they get to work endlessly to keep the economy running for the rest of the population. Away from prying eyes and forgotten by most, they work under the guards' watchful eyes. As for Julie, she is proud to serve at this post. She sees how vicious some of these convicts can be, and how these new forced work districts manage to not only solve the prison over-population but also the economic downturn.
She is serving her patriotic duty, and as long as she doesn't think too hard about things like privacy concerns, mistaken identities or human rights, this brave new world looks quite nice on the surface. Thanks to people like her and policies that the authorities enacted, the rest of the world can worry about much more important things like art, sports and pleasure.

Well done. Tyranny is any political system (whether absolute monarchy or fascism or communism) that does not recognize individual rights (which necessarily include property rights). Capitalism is the only force in human history that has uplifted the poor, created a middle-class, and ended the kind of slavery your art and text depict. Of course any individual who commits a crime against another (in violation of the person’s rights) should be punished. Freedom and criminality are not synonyms; indeed they are antithetical to one another, just as capitalism and slavery are antithetical in both concept and practice. The one idea in your text I question is that you seem to deplore the freedom to spend ones time enjoying luxury or entertaining pastimes – perhaps this is not your intent – but I should think there is no wrong in indulging in whatever luxury or entertainment one desires with the caveat that it is purchased with honest labor. Perhaps you only intend to highlight the tyranny of your fictional State – however freedom includes the freedom to spend ones time (or money) as one sees fit. Your cynicism in regards to individual choice in this one instance seems more consistent with tyrannical attitudes (towards how individuals chose to spend their time or resources) than with the attitude of one concerned with freedom or liberty.
