Description

The Tower Theater was the first theater designed by architect S. Charles Lee. Its exterior features a prominent clock tower, the very top of which was removed after an earthquake. It opened in 1927 with the silent film: The Gingham Girl. The Tower was the first filmhouse in Los Angeles to be wired for talking pictures, and it was the location of the sneak preview and Los Angeles premiere of Warner Bros.' revolutionary part-talking: The Jazz Singer (1927), starring Al Jolson. The theater was the first in Los Angeles to be air conditioned. The Tower Theater's exterior and/or interior can be seen in the following films: *The Omega Man (1971) *The Mambo Kings (1992) *Last Action Hero (1993) *Fight Club (1999) *Coyote Ugly (2000) *Mulholland Drive (2001) *The Prestige (2006) Repeatedly closed again, it is now used as a filming location and for special events. * 8th/Broadway in Los Angeles (USA, California) - 2013

I do like this different type of colourisation ... BTW the remake of 'The Jazz Singer' was with Neil Diamond in 1980, the only one I ever saw ... great work, Julchen BB

Was macht diesen Effekt?

I love these old Vaudeville houses...back then, they had REAL entertainment and performers with REAL talent (most of the time, anyway)...George Burns, Fred Astaire, the Marx Brothers, and William Frawley (from I Love Lucy) all got their start in places like this.

Impressive post work. Los Angeles has destroyed so much of its past but at least it has managed to preserve most of the downtown great movie houses such as the Los Angeles, the Million Dollar and the Tower theatres. Someday, if you visit again, we can see the inside of these fine old ladies. Beeindruckende Nachbearbeitung.
