Description
The human mind can be a delicate thing, and when through age related conditions, accident or health conditions it becomes altered there can be an instant state of unbearable reality for both the person affected and those who care for them, it represents a daily inner pain to accept the person they once loved as a wife/husband, mother/father or son/daughter has gone and yet their body is still alive and remains, they look the same but different, where love and affection may have existed may come pain, resentment and burden and ultimately the impact both mentally and physically upon the carer. It can be a terrible condition to see a loved one taken away from you and replaced by a stranger who still bears the resemblance of the loved one, physically it's them but mentally they have departed and been replaced by a stranger. Mercifully i have never had any personal experience of this but i know those who have and we know this condition can hit anybody later in life or through accident or other conditions, it cares neither for class level or wealth.
The overriding reality is that of those who day to day have to bear witness to the pain of slowly waving goodbye to a loved one and for the person affected reaching a point when faces become strangers and warped into a state of non-reality, a scary world of uncertainty before all faculties are lost for good. Without wishing to overly simplify the situation i can only imagine it's like our brains being a hard drive and suddenly through a period of time it's being slowly deleted until there is nothing left, or it becomes completely deleted in one go, i call that the cruelest and most painful thing of all. I thought it was important to remember how many people day to day who only gain peace of mind when they are asleep because when they wake each morning the reality of this situation is instantly back once more even when a loved one has to go into special nursing care.. this often only goes to heighten the pain and worry even if they are being looked after by good people. I thought it was important to remember this situation as maybe we often only think about things when they affect us personally or maybe thinking only through experiencing such things can we truly understand it... may we never have to, but equally help support those who do.
