Description

Anax imperator. Britain's largest dragonfly. An exciting visitor to my garden on the last day of June. They are very fast and restless and perch only rarely so I was very lucky to get this pic with my Tizzy. The male Broad-bodied Chaser was there too, and they each deeply resented the other being there, resulting in brief aerial dogfights which I was not clever enough to catch.

Fantastic capture, I half expect to see a photograph from your garden of a Passenger Pigeon very soon!, the place seems to be a haven for wildlife, and very beautiful it is too. This capture is first class with nice detail. Nature can be equally if not more beautiful than any artists efforts.

I'm guessing you don't want to tangle with this one. The aerial dogfight must have been reminiscent of the Blitz. An unbelievable image. Super sharp and detailed. Superb work.

What a regal looking creature. It reminds me of our Common Green Darner and by your description of it's behavior sounds similar as well. I spend way more time than I should in trying to photograph Dragonflies in flight - with very little success I might add, lol. Well captured. Lee
