Description

Lucanus servus It pays to have rotting woodpiles in the garden. I have several and as a consequence see these impressive beetles quite often. She hadn't quite put her wings away after the flight that caught my attention! See her a few minutes later after release Here

That is one fine looking beetle, apparently unfazed by the situation. Top notch clarity, color, composition and texture in this one handed Tizzy shot, A.

Quite a splendid image. Your coolness is impressive. I'll bet she had a story to tell later on. "I had the most unusual experience today."

First class shot, did she give you a nip?, they can sometimes draw blood but an amazing beetle. People should not be so scared of insects, so before stamping or hitting with a rolled up newspapers, take time to think what amazing insects we have and the photographic opportunities they afford us. I feel inspired... maybe I shall see what I have in my insects folder.

You are so lucky! I'm so envious that you get them often. Excellent shot! I hope to see this iconic beetle one day.

I can truly say I've never seen these in nature; I don't know if we have them or not, and if we do they are very well hidden! What an amazing creature! And if it's a female wouldn't it be a doe beetle?

A wonderful capture here and on FlickR. I like this one better because of the perspective against your hand. Powerful mandibles and I don't think that they get that big on this side of the great pond!
