Greetings to the people of Earth.
I've always wanted to say that! Now that I did, I can now get on with other things.
I'm a science fiction writer (not famous yet) born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. I've lived in the Czech Republic and Germany, and though I am currently back in Chicago, much of my heart remains in the Czech Republic. Maybe it's the beer. Or the bread. I hope to live in Moscow soon, as a big portion of my heart already resides there. I've had an interest in science fiction since an early age and will probably maintain that interest for the rest of my life. I love SF, and anything else that embraces the spirit of discovery...or anything that chafes against the arbitrary boundaries of "conformity."Â
I discovered Renderosity a couple of years back when I was browsing the internet, looking for cool images to spark my imagination during a period of writer's block. It wasn't a serious block, but I needed something to make me ask the sorts of questions that I always ask before settling down to craft a short story or novella. Since that time, I've written quite a lot and I've begun to post photographs and other visual works that I created here...partially because I love the Renderosity community in general, and partially because the images and text-snippets that I have contributed here are something of an ongoing journal. I'm incredibly lazy when it comes to journal keeping, and so posting picures of particular significance actually helps me to remember the things I want to remembe, without having to eat into my fiction writing time by writing non fiction. Well, at least that's my excuse and I am sticking with it.
I entered into the field of photography totally by accident; I'd always been interested in capturing small stories, but it wasn't until my journey to Europe that I began to consciously seek out tableaus that imply stories in progress. As a result of that, my writing is growing in unexpected directions, and I look forward to becoming more and more active here, and in other artistic/publishing fields.
For those looking at my gallery, enjoy it and feel free to leave comments and sitemail! Good day to all!

As disappointed as I am with the state of the USA and much of the "Free World" today, I want to believe that the important thing is that we continue to strive for ideals - even if, like Thomas Jefferson, we fail to meet our own aspirations... That said, there is nothing wrong with the US that a could House cleaning (and Senate cleaning) wouldn't solve...

Your image is heavy with symbolism and yet I find the simple connection between luxury and the ever-present cockroach's free entry into luxury, to be more interesting.

Of course this makes me think of the night he went off on his own while we had dinner, and then came back again. (I have one or two or a couple dozen of him, myself.) :)

He looks quite at home in Chicago, I think; at least on the billboard. HB to FK in memoriam, and well done image Chip!

Best Kafka movie I've seen was an animation of "Metamorphosis" done in sand laid on glass and lit from underneath - the different shades were created by piling the sand to different thicknesses. I'm sure Kafka would have loved the idea of his story told in shifting sands...

Although Kafka in "America" quite unattached writes, it is this work that has fascinated me from him. In Prague, I also visited the museum. Beautiful that you remember on him.

Okay, so this is the third time I've tried to comment on this picture. Unfortunately, my computer keeps turning into a bright blue cockroach. Which summarily destroys my cognitive whatevers and I have to start evolution all over again. It's a shame because well, this is a lovely warm shot. And 4.6 billion years later, again, I now understand the trials of Josef K - snicker. Incidentally I saw 'The Trial' starring Kyle MacLachlan a few years back, definitely not a date movie. Nor is 'Being John Malkovich', which answers the question, "what if Kafka were a member of Monty Python?". Even though it was written by Charlie Kaufman, but he was Kafka to us and we were grateful. I don't know why but Kafka looks comfortable juxtaposed against 'Public Parking' sign. It's almost like a invitation to come over and chat with him. Perhaps over a Bartenders' Root Beer (it's a Manitoba thing), I'm sure he wouldn't mind the late birthday greeting either - and I'm seventeen (17) days late. I imagine a nice friendly crowd of well wishers hanging in the parking spaces wishing Fantz a happy birthday. Hey, I'm going to make it this time!
