Description

The reason I titled this Optical Illusion is because the lines in the photo make the left side wider or taller, depending on how you look at it, than the left side. If any of you are thinking about upgrading your gear, let me tell you why I chose the 6D over the Mark3. Price for starters and the only real difference between the 2 is in the favor of the 6D. It is slightly better in low light, has wiFi and GPS built in other than minor differences in AF points and file size they are essentially the same camera. I am so glad I made the leap. The t3i is on the auction block. Keep an eye on the 70D coming out next month. It has a few features the 6D and Mark3 don't that are worth considering. FULL VIEW HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

the illusion is because you are closer to the left maybe. very nice landscape. The 6D loses about 5% of some of the 5D Mark III features, most notably a simpler AF system, only two "C" modes, only one memory card and no auto brightness control for the LCD, but adds the same 5% back with GPS and WiFi not in the 5D Mark III. I have no need for either, because it is very easy to download pictures using a card reader. I have never had the need for GPS I like the feel of the 5D especially shooting video. from being a contractor I am still use to using heavy tools.

With all due respect, I have to say that the difference between the AF points isn't 'minor'..... it's MASSIVE! The 5d III has 61 focus points, 41 of which are cross type focus. The 6d only has 11 focus points, with a mere 1 as cross type. I usually only shoot and focus in all manual so it would not be an issue for me, but this will be a huge issue for someone auto tracking fast moving subjects. I certainly don't think wi-fi and GPS in any way make up for this. The 5d III has a faster shutter and less shutter lag. The 6d is heaps cheaper, but it's worth noting too that as well as being much cheaper, the 6d is also much more 'plastic'. The back screen cover is plastic instead of glass with the 5d III, and the viewfinder on the 6d does not have 100% coverage. If your intent is to shoot fast moving sports, then the 5d III is world's apart from the sluggish AF points of the 6d, but for the difference in price between the two, I would choose the 6d. It is still more than capable of taking quality shots in the hands of a skilled photographer. It just depends what you want to use the camera for.
