Description

Nam & Kaz’ Prehistoric World Notes: Tonight is the season finale of the Nam & Kaz story. I will still do segments, but I want to finish this story off. Narrative: The two young people had left the inland sea behind them several weeks earlier and had entered the grasslands. It had taken four months to walk around the sea. Kaz had been watching Nam closely for the last week. He seemed to be walking strangely. “What’s wrong Nam?” Kaz inquired. Nam stopped and shook his foot, “It’s my boots,” Nam said, “they don’t fit anymore, and my pants are too short.” Kaz smiled and laughed. She had noticed that he had grown much taller over the last year. Her own clothes no longer fit well either. Over the last year as they traveled west to meet the Spirit Boy that her father, the Night Spirit, had chosen for her, they had both grown to young adulthood. Kaz didn’t want to marry this Spirit Boy her father had chosen. She wanted to marry Nam. Nam had even told her that he was going to challenge the Spirit Boy to a duel for the right to wed her. Kaz looked up at the sky and saw a falling star and made a wish on it. Nam followed her gaze up and watched the falling star as well. It was the brightest falling star he had ever seen. “Kaz?” Nam said as he started to get concerned. The falling star was coming right at them. Nam watched a few moments longer until he was certain. ‘That star is going to land right here!’ Nam thought. Nam grabbed Kaz’s hand, “Kaz!” Nam shouted, “Run!” The ground and sky lit up as if it were day. Nam looked over his shoulder, his eyes went wide. The star seemed to cover half the sky now. It would land in the next few seconds, and less then the distance Nam could loose an arrow from his bow. Nam leaped sideways and threw himself across Kaz. The star struck the earth and the ground heaved upwards and debris struck Nam as he shielded Kaz from the blast wave. Nam and Kaz were thrown violently to the ground. Nam felt a pain in his ankle as his foot twisted striking the ground. Nam’s ears were ringing as he looked around. Ground fires had erupted all around them. He painfully pulled himself up and then pulled Kaz to her feet. It was a miracle that both of them were still alive. “We have to go, now!” Nam yelled. “These fires will spread and we will be trapped. Nam limped several steps pulling Kaz along when she pulled her hand from his. “Stop,” Kaz said and pulled her hand from his. “Can’t you hear it?” Kaz turned and ran toward the crater. Nam was confused, ‘What was she doing? Hear what? He limped after her and watched as she disappeared into the crater. Nam was nearly to the edge of the crater when he heard Kaz shouting, “Hurry, I found the Spirit Boy.” Nam froze and his blood went to ice, he laid his hand on his hunting knife and stepped to the edge of the crater. He never had a chance to pull his blade. Kaz turned and looked up at him. She was holding a crying infant baby. Nam slipped over the edge and slid down into the crater and walked up to Kaz. “Oh Nam,” Kaz began. “We misunderstood what father told us. He said it was time for me to find a husband and to go west to find the Spirit Boy I would fall in love with. I found my husband, Nam, it’s you. And here is the Spirit Boy I was to fall in love with. The Spirits have given us a child.” Kaz stepped in front of her husband and held the child out and spoke the formal words, “Nam Hunter, I present you with your son.” Nam looked at the infant, it had stopped crying, its eyes had a sparkle to them and there was a mischievous smile on the boy’s face. Nam took the child, looked at him a moment longer and then lifting the child over his head so that the Moon Spirit could bare witness, spoke the formal words of all the tribes. “I share my name with you, my son.” Nam said. “You will be called, Zam.”

Awesome turn of events - love the twists, turns and switchbacks. A tear and smile came to the big bear (though actually I look more like a silverback gorilla).

Wonderful! This is a real happy ending. I was afraid for a minute we were going to kill off one of the main characters.
