Description

...the old fashioned way. I rendered this a couple of weeks ago, I think...when I was trying to see how many looks I could get out of Brennan. Here, he's the captain of the last Nasrid sultan's private sloop, going to take the Lady Zuli back to southern Spain from visiting her family in Tangier. The Nasrid Dynasty were the last caliphate to hold southern Iberia or Spain. It was the Nasrid sultans who built the beautiful Alhambra palace and fortress in Granada. "The Alhambra's Islamic palaces were built for the last Muslim emirs in Spain and its court of the Nasrid dynasty. After the Reconquista by the Reyes Católicos ("Catholic Monarchs") in 1492, some portions were used by Christian rulers. The Palace of Charles V, built by Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor in 1527, was inserted in the Alhambra within the Nasrid fortifications. After being allowed to fall into disrepair for centuries, the Alhambra was rediscovered in the 19th century by European scholars and travelers, with restorations commencing. It is now one of Spain's major tourist attractions, exhibiting the country's most significant and well known Arab-Islamic architecture, together with 16th-century and later Christian building and garden interventions. The Alhambra is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the inspiration for many songs and stories." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alhambra ***** I rarely use this boat, but I love it. It is the "Sultana" from DAZ. It comes with the dock. SRG_Brennan (WIP) SRG_Erzuli (YURDigital)

Moorish Spain had such a vibrant culture...and it seems to me that Muslims, Christians and Jews all actually got along pretty well in Moorish Society (arguably, the latter two groups were considered "second class citizens" - but were still afforded legal rights and protections).

Cool image and very cool information. I'll have to look up the Alhambra. Brennan looks apropriately "swarthy" in this image. I think in those days the Catholics were more intolerant than Islam/Muslim. I imagine the congeniality eroded quickly over time and broke for good after WWII when the UN broke up Palestine and disrupted the Middle East.
