Description

A view of the Greenheart Canopy Walkway, which is a series of small suspended bridges that connect a group of trees at the UBC Botanical Garden. They are very narrow, really just wide enough for one person to walk across, & very wobbly. So wobbly that my wife, who suffers from vertigo, had to turn around after a few feet & was unable to join us. If you can tolerate the wobbliness, though, It offers a tree level view that we ground dwellers don't normally get to experience. Here's some info from the UBC website: "Located in the David C. Lam Asian Garden and open year-round, the Greenheart Canopy Walkway is a 308-metre (1010 feet) aerial trail system that offers a rare perspective of the natural beauty of the west coast forest canopy ecosystem. It is the only one of its kind in Canada. The Greenheart Canopy Walkway has eight tree platforms more than 15 metres above the ground with a ninth, a two-storey platform, on a free-standing tower reaching more than 22 metres in the air. The longest bridge is 50 metres long. The total length of the walkway is 308 meters. Construction is as non-invasive as possible using the patent pending ‘tree hugger’ suspension system. The tree hugger uses no nails or bolts or intrusive fasteners of any kind, using instead, a variable tension system to provide the least amount of infringement or impact on the trees."

I've heard of this and seen pictures, but have never been there. I'd love to give it a try! Some places I don't have any problem at all (I walked across the bridge at Glen Canyon Dam in great comfort, which is 700 feet above the water) but others stop me cold (I can't walk across the bridge at Deception Pass, which is less than 200 feet above the water). It looks fabulous!

I'm game to give it a try; like Tara, I have a bit of trouble with Deception Pass, but other heights don't bother me too much. I think I'd like this. Wonderful view of the wobbly pathway and tree canopy!

Don't know how big your dog is, but you would have a very hard time walking across this bridge without holding on with two hands - it's very narrow & very wobbly.

A lovely capture and an excellent way to view the canopy in the trees!
