Description

Tara: Can we park the motorhome in your driveway for a few days on our way through Rapid City? Rosy: Sure! Do you want to park at the house in town, or out at the ranch, where I live? (The question was a bit pointed.) :P Tara: How far off the main road is the ranch? Rosy: Thirty miles. Tara: And how much of that thirty miles is a dirt road? Rosy: Thirty miles. We parked the motorhome at her house in town and drove out to the ranch in the car every day. It was a good road as these things go, but not good enough to drive the motorhome out there. We came to enjoy the drive, and this was one of our favorite views. When you crest the first hill, you can see the next one, marked with trees on either side. Checking the odometer, from ridge to ridge, it was about seven miles. It's astonishing how clearly one can see something from seven miles away! (This is much closer than that of course.) I don't know how interesting this sort of landscape might be to anyone else, but it brings a sense of peaceful timelessness, driving through the countryside.

There's a stretch of road on HWY 20, an east/west route across California that look a lots like this. It seems to go on forever and when I drive it, I usually have thoughts like, "what was I thinking; will I EVER get there??" great shot of wide open spaces!

When my parents lived at Lake Havasu they had a 45 mile drive from the main highway to the settlement where their house was. Kind of makes you think hard about shopping trips! Sometimes the easiest way was to take the boat across the lake to Havasu City...this is a much lovelier drive than theirs through the desert most of the time. What a welcoming sort of view, those rolling green hills. Beautiful!

Many songs have been written about those long and lonesome roads, but the roads less travelled on, are usually the most unforgettable ones ... and by the look of this dirt track, there has got to be something really tempting at the end of it ... ;)) maybe a nice glass of RED ? a very calming and serene vision BB

Well, it doesn't appear to have been 30 miles of bad road. Excellent image conveying a great sense of wide open (and largely empty) spaces. My eyes do tend to cross when looking at disappearing roads.

Wow beautiful, and how funny a 30 mile dirt road, I guess not something you do everyday. I would stock up on groceries for months. Sure is pretty!
