Description

When we went to the San Diego zoo they had the Koala exhibit going on (Koalafornia as they called it). We arrived early in the morning and the exhibit was close to the entrance. They had about 12 koala's there and about 10 were sleeping (even with all the chaos around them from the crowds.) As we passed by later in the day, alas pretty much all of them were still sleeping. LOL. They reminded me of my cats as there is never enough time in the day for naps. Anyway, sleeping or not they are cute as can be. Thanks for looking and any comments :-).

AWWWWWW! I often see these guys in the wild, and honestly their growls sound exactly like what you would imagine lions or tigers to sound like! Very intimidating if you don't know what's making the noise! They sleep so much because of their need to digest and absorb nutrients from Eucalyptus leaves which are such a poor source of nutrition. Although there are over 600 varieties of Eucalyptus trees within a koalas' home range, they may actually only be able to consume ten or less species.
