Description

This is Moraine Lake, Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada. The lake is situated in the valley of the ten peaks and is part of the Canadian Rockies. Wikipedia says: Moraine Lake is a glacially-fed lake in Banff National Park, 8.7 miles (14 km) uphill from the Village of Lake Louise also in Alberta, Canada. The lake is at an elevation of 6,183 feet (1,885 m) and has a surface area of 0.19 square miles (.5 square km). The lake is glacially fed and it reflects a distinct shade of blue. The color is due to the refraction of light off the rock dust that is the consistency of flour and not heavy enough to settle to the bottom. This rock flower is thus suspended in the water. Photo taken in 1988 and later scanned. Worth a zoom. Thank you for stopping by, taking a look and for all your previous favorites and comments. They are very much appreciated. Dana
