Description

I just received a SM from Dana regarding my new avatar. It is a memorial to my late friend Phil as well as a reminder to me of my service in the Navy. A Coin like this is with Phil in his casket. this is called a Challenge Coin and all branches of the military have their own. Here are the rules for the Challenge Coin: A "Coin Check" consists of a challenge and response. A challenge is initiated by either holding your coin in the air or slamming it on a table or floor and yelling "Coin Check!" 2. Individual(s) challenged must respond by showing their Coin with their own unit's logo to the challenger within 10 seconds. 3. Anyone challenged who doesn't show their Coin must buy a round of drinks for all challenged, including the challenger. 4. Coin Checks are permitted anywhere and anytime. 5. If everyone being challenged produces their Coin, the challenger must buy a round of drinks for all challenged. 6. If you accidentally drop your Coin and it makes an audible sound on impact, then you "accidentally" initiated a Coin Check. 7. There are no exceptions to the rules. They apply to clothed or un- clothed. One step and an arms reach are allowed. 8. A Coin is a Coin. They are not belt buckles, key chains or necklaces. Coins worn in a holder around the neck are valid. Always carry your coin as a reminder of your commitment and connection to something bigger in your daily life. A personal note: the drink(s) do not have to be alcoholic. I will post the flip side of this coin later. The copy of these rules come courtesy of VetFriends.com

HEY! That's pretty cool Mike. I've NEVER heard of that. Quite a sharp looking coin I might add. Makes me wonder what the coins from the other groups look like. Thanks for sharing this fascinating image and information.

Wonderful dedication to your friend and a great tradition. I'll have to ask my young Army friend if they still do this.

And now we know why one day of war is a day of excess... :-p So does it work with the enemy too ? :-D It could be the best way of peace, isn't it ? ;-)

That's a fancy coin Mike. We (the 161th ARW- Air Refueling Wing) of the Arizona Air National Guard started that in the early 90's. My coin says USAF on top, and Aircrew Life Support (my specialty) at the bottom and a blank space in the back for the unit. Despite the fact that I don't go into military drinking establishment anymore (or very seldom) the coin is in my wallet and goes where I go. I don't remember having a coin while I was in the active duty Air Force in the 60's.
