Description

Back in the 40's, the police scoffed when locals insisted "Zeroes" were flying over Brisbane in Australia... I've been working on bump/masked materials for the Hayabusa model. Hanger 7 at Eagle Farm air base in Brisbane, was the home of one arm of the Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit (ATAIU) in World War II, the unit tasked with reassembling and testing Japanese aircraft. XJ-002 was a Nakajima Ki-43-I (or "Oscar" to use its ATAIU codename) that was assembled from pieces of damaged aircraft recovered from an over-run airfield in New Guinea. Some photos show the aircraft in the raw metal finish reproduced here. The late-war USAAF insignia helps to date the photographs to late '43 or 1944. This is an excellent model, but the texture work is outstanding! Very nice work, and I really like the red spinner in the composition...hits just the right note. Very nice work.

First off, great model...it looks good, if a little odd, 'Americanised'...America never went in for 'streamlined' when it came to warbirds :-) By coincidence, there was a Zero cockpit, with wing roots and undercarriage attached, at Duxford...That has ATAIU still painted in huge letters down the side....will post it in the next couple of days....

Ah but young Neil, I have just returned from RAF Cosford where all the collections Axis aircraft are stored including Japanese ones! Several the only in the world!!!! On there way mate! Eyes peeled! This is great though, rig it for Poser and I'd buy! lol Well done! Rob
