Description

this is a sculpture I bought from famous Saskatchewan Artist Don Hefner. don, like me, is largely self taught, I knew him when I was doing that artist thang in Saskatoon. His sculptures are made primarily from scrap he finds around his farm, and also bales of wire (smooth and barbed) bought from the UFA. I have two pieces of his, this, Spring Wheet, is made out of a tractor spring mount and Barbed wire "wheat".. the other piece is a wire mesh grasshopper, which is sometimes known as Saskatchewan's provincial bird. I gave Spring Wheat to my Mum years ago, and on this shot I used Rembrandt Lighting (my favourite kind) to illuminate and cast defined shadows. The last thing I heard from him was that he had sculpted a life sized Bison out of barbed wire.... that's a lot of wire, lemme tell you. Also for pure raunchiness, Don would put Rene to shame (sorry, m'friend). comment welcome, even the nasty ones.. peace, love, and bubblegum...
