I saw this as soon as it went up, and though I wasn't commenting at that time, I almost commented on this then and there. It's exquisite. You took the tones of the photograph, and you interpreted them through your own inner eye, your "internal D800," and you came up with a totally Jock painting. Your layering of the sky---those laid-on layers of golds, browns and yellows, and the touches of other hues---they make a 'tapestry' of the sky, a sense, almost, of silks laid-out upon the heavens. You've rendered the land in deep mysterious blues; and the building in the distance is mysteriously lit up. It's a real study in late-day light, how it transforms the sky, and how it creates its own unique shadows. It reminds me of Monet's studies of haystacks and cathedrals, as he painted the same haystacks or cathedrals over and over as the light changed throughout a day: how they change so dramatically with each new hour, and how---in sunset---he captured those deep shadow-hues as well. As always, your brushwork is vital, here in wonderful waves. And turned made a natural scene into a very painterly vision. Beautiful work, as always. I jumped off my chair when it went up, I liked it so much...
