Description
Zam’s Prehistoric World
Narrative:
“Do you know me?” the shadowy figure asked.
Zam was hunched down on the ground with his hands stretched out towards the fire. He rubbed his hands together to warm himself in the glow of the flames.
“Go away, I won’t play your riddles today,” Zam snapped at the shadow. Zam stood and stamped his feet trying to get warm. It was so very cold here.
“Those are a lie you made up,” the shadow ignored Zam’s foul temper.
“I can feel them and I can see them. They are real enough, now go away,” Zam turned away from the shadow and tried to ignore it. Stars were falling from the sky. He knew they were falling, except they seemed to be falling very slowly. Zam counted them. There were twenty-four frozen falling stars in the sky.
“Do you know me?” the shadow asked again.
“I said go away,” Zam replied.
“Do you know me?” the shadow persisted.
Zam spun around and shouted at the shadow, “You always thought I was stupid! It was a mistake! I made a mistake!”
Zam looked at the ground, “I trusted him.”
“Do you know me?” the shadow asked again.
“Yes, you are what I lost.” Zam whispered.
One of the stars hanging in the sky fell to the ground.

“Clamp,” the surgeon demanded. He clamped the collapsed artery and prepared to place a bypass. The artery had ruptured and Mischief had been rushed to emergency surgery to stop the internal bleeding.
“The bleeding has stopped,” the surgeon announced and looked up to one of the nurses. “Lady Serine wanted to know immediately the moment he was stable again. Go tell her.”
Outside the operating room several nurses were waiting for news. They were Zam’s personal floor nurses and were waiting for news of the boy.
“The surgeon has stopped the bleeding,” the operating room nurse told the other nurses. “But if you ask me this is cruel. He should be let go to the ancestors, the injuries are too severe.”
The nurses all nodded in agreement.

Lady Serine had watched and heard the nurses’ conversation on the hospital internal vid monitoring system.
“I want his room converted to a surgical room and a full surgical staff standing outside his room at all times,” Lady Serine instructed the figure standing in the corner.
Lady Serine, Zam’s Grandmother and the wealthiest Kitsune Noble on the planet and second wealthiest in the Alliance switched the vid viewer to an image of her grandson lying on the operating room table. She willed her heart to ice; she could not afford emotions yet.
“And I want those nurses removed,” Lady Serine added.
Lord Raven, House Fox’ most trusted advisor stepped from the shadows. “They were the staff here when Mischief arrived. I have already selected a more appropriate staff and they are waiting to take charge of Mischief’s care. Shall I have those nurses killed?”
Lady Serine glanced annoyed at the dark clad Lord Raven. If she gave the word, Lord Ravine would have them killed without so much as glancing up from the cup of tea he was currently sipping on. But this was his way of telling her that her emotions were creeping in and it was not yet time for that.
“No, that won’t be necessary,” Lady Serine clarified. “But ensure that they never set eyes on the moons of Kitsune again.”
Lord Raven set his tea cup down and moved toward the door. “I will have them on slow transports to the furthest reaches of the Galaxy within the hour.”

Emotions are great things unless you let them rule you. A crisis is not the time to indulge in them. Many a disaster has been precipitated by an unleashing of emotions unwisely. The Lady is an admirable character. Fabulous work!
