Description
Commander Reox’s Prehistoric World
Narrative:
Commander Reox stood alone in the Mess staring at the painting of the Battle of Fennec Sea. The original Battleship Alopex, a massive nuclear powered Fox-of-War was engaging the Battleship Claw. In the end the Claw had gone down with all hands and the Alopex had lost it’s battle to stay afloat and sank several hours later, but that had been enough time for House Fox to send it’s smaller Kit Class destroyers through the Fang Straights and capture House Crow. House Crow still, to this day, serves as a subjugated House to House Fox.
“You sent for me, Commander,” the Ship’s Chief asked. The Ship’s Chief was an extremely large, muscular, and well respected Demon among the crew.
“I did,” said the Commander. “I was contacted by Lord Fox. He says that you stood and swore oath as his boy’s Tarlock?”
“Yes Sir, I was honored when Lord Fox asked me to stand at the birth and swear Tarlock to his boys,” the Chief responded with pride.
The Commander nodded, “I understand that a Tarlock is similar to the Kitsune Godfather but with a bit more teeth.”
The Chief followed his Commanders gaze and looked at the painting of the two sea vessels at war. The Chief couldn’t image being surrounded by so much water. It was unnatural. No proper demon would ever go near that much water.
“Yes Sir,” the Chief stated. “I know of the Godfather custom of your people. The Tarlock is much more. If the father is unable to be present, for whatever reason, and request that the one that swore Tarlock become Tarlock. That demon becomes the child’s father and fatherhood can not be taken back by the birth father unless the Tarlock gives it back willingly.”
“You are aware that Malice is on board?” asked the Commander.
“Yes, and a fine strong and handsome demon he is growing to be,” the Chief said proudly. “Though it is a shame he has no tail, it will set him off balance when he learns hand-to-hand combat.”
“I understand he has a black belt in three disciplines already,” the Commander replied knowing what the Chief would say next.
“The marshal arts taught by a Kitsune combat master gives him the ability to fight a Kitsune, but not another Demon,” the Chief stated in that tone of ‘I say so, so it’s fact’.
“Lord Fox has asked that you assume Tarlok,” the Commander said. “He is many months if not years away, and the boy has sworn a vengeance oath.”
“I would not interfere with a vengeance oath…” the Chief started to say.
The Commander spun around, his face only inches from the Chief. The Chief saw the Commander’s hand move to his blade and pull it half way out of the scabbard.
“I did not ask you how you would raise your son. I asked you if you would raise him.” The Commander’s eyes bore into the red flaming eyes of the Chief.
The Chief could not be more proud of the Commander. This was why he served this Kitsune Commander. The Commander knew how to speak properly to a Demon.
“I will leave the ship to be with my son,” the Chief replied. “I have trained the crew well, they will survive without me. I will return with my son when it is time.” The Chief turned and headed toward the door. He stopped at the doorway and without turning around added, “Had you pulled your blade, I would have killed you, Commander.”
“I would have been honored at the attempt,” the Commander replied.
The Chief grinned and walked out the door. ‘Yes, a very fine and worthy Commander to serve.’

Fantastic interaction between two fine warriors! Well done! You write this sort of scene as well as you did the naming of the trees and fairies and whatnot. No mean feat!
