Description

When I first moved here 25 years ago, Box Turtles were common. I often saw them crossing the roads as I went to town and I saw them on my property on a regular basis. Unfortunately that is not the case any more. I feel pretty lucky if I see more than one or two over the course of a year. The Three Toed Box turtle is a subspecies of the Eastern Box turtle and have variable patterns of reds and orange. This one I found in my driveway one evening at about dark thirty. I had just arrived home and almost didn't even see it but lucky for all concerned, I did and managed to get a couple of shots. It was dark enough that I had to use the flash. I managed to avoid flash highlights because of a homemade diffuser. I am pretty sure this is a female because males have red eyes. My thanks to those who have taken the time to comment on previous postings. The feedback is appreciated. Lee
