As you may have noticed, I removed my latest pic of my own free will yesterday, as a couple of friends here and the Renderosity team had informed me about the 'technicalities' of the publishing of the photos featuring the Eiffel Tower. Actually, the photos taken in the daytime are allowed, as the Eiffel tower is now in the public domain, but the nightly lighting of the tower is owned by a private society to whom I've given credit here ...As a result, I have uploaded my photo again, without your precious comments alas. I would like to say thank you very much to all those who wrote a comment here for the first publication of the same photo.
...As I previously wrote, the Eiffel tower was built for the celebration of the 1889 World's Fair ( Exposition Universelle ) in Paris, and its engineer-designer Gustave Eiffel had been granted a 20-year contract only, after which the tower was supposed to be torn down and dismantled. However, as WW1 broke in, the Eiffel tower proved invaluable as powerful radio transmitters were fitted to the tower in order to jam German communications. This seriously hindered their advance on Paris, and contributed to the Allied victory ...And then the tourists flocked in ! So far, over 250,000,000 people have been reported to have visited the tower.  Credits: SETE â illuminations Pierre Bideau
